Eco Tasar silk (P) Ltd produces hand woven silk off-the-loom made ups like stoles, scarves, dupattas and saris besides fabric by the yard.

It has over 300 looms working on contract with it and the production capacity is over 12000 metres a month. It specializes in “tasar” silk which is a natural silk and its silkworms are  reared on live trees as they do not feed on plucked leaves. It is a forest based activity and its exposure to nature results in it’s truly multi tonal look which can never be duplicated by manmade fabric. This makes it a truly wild silk much sought after by connoisseurs.

These all natural silks are made by a collaborative venture of tribal silkworm rearers, poor rural women yarn makers and handloom wearers in the hinterlands of India. Each item’s creation is a source of livelihood and hope for a better future for thousands of women and tribal who otherwise have no wage opportunity in their remote villages and are often forced to migrate to cites in search of a living as many of them are marginal farmers and income from agriculture is not sufficient to last the whole year.

This co operative venture endeavors to bring out the beauty of Tasar silk in many innovative and creative manners so that the item you buy is uniquely different in origin and appearance and it complements your sense of aesthetics and social consciousness.

Eco Tasar is a fair trade organisation and is registered member of the All India Artisans and Craft workers Welfare Association (www.aiacaonline.org ) and is an authorized user of SILKMARK (www.silkmarkindia.com) ( a label promoted for pure silk producers by the Govt Of India). It is a registered exporter and is an active member of the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (www.isepc.com )
